WORD MAVEN

A seasoned editor with experience at print publications and in the fast-paced digital news cycle, I'm at my best when I'm helping others improve their work. I've worn many hats in my decade-plus of newsroom experience, including editor, manager, writer, project manager, interviewer, QA tester, fact checker, and audience developer.

Freelance EDITING

I've edited projects big and small, from copy for Big Weekend Calendars to the nonfiction Apples & Ashes (University of Georgia Press, 2012) and Los Otros Dreamers (2014). My latest work has been copy editing and fact checking for 10Ten Media–produced special issues of TIME, guest editing for The Markup and JCK Online, proofreading for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and writing and editing for WeRateDogs. The Daily Dot (2012–2020)

Though I started my time at the Daily Dot as an editor—part-time morning editor from 2012 to 2014, then full-time as Entertainment Editor in 2014—I quickly collected other duties and responsibilities outside the editorial department, including liaising with the product team, managing audience development, and more. One of my proudest accomplishments won't appear in any one of those job descriptions, however: I designed and implemented a monthly bonus program for staffers, a huge boon to organizational health.

The Austin Chronicle (2008–2014)

I worked my way up the ranks at Austin's esteemed alt-weekly, from my start as a proofreading intern in 2008 all the way up to Senior Editor of Books & Screens. Along the way, I gained a healthy appreciation for small, tedious tasks—like manually entering film times for each of the area's 19 cinemas—as well as taking ownership of huge projects—like the annual South by Southwest Film and Interactive supplements, for which I assigned and edited dozens of features and blog posts.
